With over 16 years of experience running successful political campaigns, Sarah Nelson has held leadership positions in competitive races at every level ranging from state legislature to presidential. Throughout her career, she has managed all elements of campaigns including: paid voter contact programs, grassroots field operations, communications and fundraising as well as messaging and strategy development. She has advised and managed races for U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, Governor and Lt. Governor as well as campaigns for state legislature, local government and statewide ballot initiatives.
Most recently, Sarah served as the Deputy Political Director of the Republican National Committee where during the 2018 election cycle Republicans defeated four incumbent Democrats and expanded their majority in the US Senate. In her role, Sarah oversaw a budget of more than $95 million and led a team of over 600 staffers across 29 states; building the largest data driven field program in RNC history and producing a record level 79 million volunteer voter contacts made through door knocks and phone calls. She also provided strategic guidance to RNC Leadership, state parties, and campaigns – identifying target races and helping develop a national strategy.
Additionally, Sarah served as the RNC’s 2018 cycle Independent Expenditure Director, developing and executing the committee’s successful paid voter contact strategy in several top-target US House special elections, including GA-6 – the most expensive House race in US history.
During the 2016 cycle, Sarah served as a Regional Political Director for the RNC. In this role she oversaw all political and field operations in the Northeast region for the party and worked hand-in-hand with President Trump’s campaign to win the key presidential and U.S. Senate battle ground state of Pennsylvania – which saw the first victory in the state for a Republican presidential candidate in 28 years.
Sarah has worked on a number of presidential campaigns including serving as deputy political director for Marco Rubio’s 2016 presidential campaign, a role that involved building and managing political operations in all 50 states. In 2012, Sarah was the Romney for President State Director of Nevada and a regional political director, where she oversaw campaign activities in 17 west and mid-west states. Through her experiences, Sarah has developed a large network of political and grassroots leaders in all 50 states. She has extensive experience and relationships in the west where she has worked most of her career.
Throughout her career, Sarah has guided both political and corporate clients toward successful campaign goals. She has overseen public affairs efforts for entities ranging from Fortune 500 companies and technology startups to healthcare, education and energy groups. In this capacity she was responsible for developing communication strategies, coalitions, political outreach efforts, rapid response plans and marketing campaigns.
Sarah was born and raised in Southeastern, Idaho.
